First of all, no explanation of Snoke.
I had a mixed bag feelings for Luke Skywalker. Overall, the look and attitude was there.. But the reasoning and backstory of him after RotJ and onward were questionable. Luke tried to kill Ben Solo because he sensed the darkness within him. Instead of reasoning with young Ben he thought it was a good idea to slice him in half while he was sleeping. Luke saved his own father by showing him the Light side of the force. Why didn't he just talk Ben out of it instead? Very inconsistent.
Rey had "NOBODY" parents. Yes, that's right. Nothing on their parents other than them selling her off because they were junkies and needed quick credits. Now, I'll give them a benefit of the doubt.. I wonder if it's still kept under wraps for later episodes. If they were simply nobodies then why didn't they cast her parents in the Force Awakens? In the Force Awakens you only get a glimpse of their ship and never saw their identities for a reason. Still, at this point in time it's still crappy knowing that they were just intergalactic space junkies looking for their quick fix by selling off their own daughter. I'm having a feeling we may discover more but who fucking knows at this point.
The lightsaber battles weren't that great. I can forgive the ending scene with Kylo and Luke.. But the battle with Kylo and Rey fighting the Red Guards was not really exciting. It was a bit boring and slow.
Now Leia getting hit by some missles and then gets sucked out into the vacuum of space and then magically flies back towards her fleet had a mixed reaction to that scene. To be fair, we don't know if Leia had some form of force training after the events of RotJ or not. Even lets say you thought it was bullshit.. Well, how did Obi-Wan die again? Yeah, Star Wars is just a space opera with some crazy ass magic.
Last not least.. Luke's death felt really.. Shoehorned if that's the best explanation. So yeah, Luke self-projects himself to another planet actually fighting Kylo. At this point when he was done fighting Kylo Luke ends up passing out, and struggles to get up only seeing him disappear like how Obi-Wan did in a New Hope. So I'm not even sure if this was a Force Ghost suicide? Or if it was the force draining him that caused his death? Or maybe it was another ruse to make us believe Luke died? We don't know.
Now these were some of my complaints at least which were minor but somewhat really dragged the movie down. Ultimately it was probably the most uneventful Star Wars movie I have ever seen. It was fun just like the Force Awakens but at its core Star Wars was always about plot twists but it didn't feel impactful at all when I was done watching this film. Some people on the Internet think it was really really bad but honestly it wasn't as bad as people thought it would be. But truthfully? It's not that great but not good either. Overall, I disliked it.
